Notes From the CIDO Program
Field notes from Carnegie Mellon Heinz College’s Chief Information and Digital Officer certificate, one module at a time, applied to a working IT organization.
In September 2026 I started Carnegie Mellon University's Chief Information and Digital Officer (CIDO) Certificate Program at Heinz College Executive Education: roughly four months of live remote modules, ending with an in-person practicum in Pittsburgh where cross-industry teams present an IT and digital strategic roadmap to a simulated executive suite.
This series is my notebook. Each part takes one module (strategy, financial acumen, portfolio and vendor management, infrastructure modernization, cybersecurity, data and AI engineering, agentic automation, AI governance, and running the CIDO organization) and tests what was taught against how an IT organization actually runs. It covers the frameworks, the arguments that came up in class, and what I'm changing as a result.
